What level of care is right for you?

As we progress through life’s journey our views, needs and requirements change and planning your future is an important part of ensuring that you continue to thrive as you get older.

Actually understanding what you need is really important and the key to making the best choices is to match your housing with your lifestyle, health, and financial needs. This may mean modifying your own home to make it safer and more comfortable, or it could mean moving to a retirement village with more support and social options available on site.

If you are thinking about a retirement village there are a number of options to consider. Selwyn Village offers a range of villas, apartments and rental accommodation for those who can live independently.

If you require help with physical needs including activities of daily living you may be eligible for rest home, hospital or even dementia care. There are a number of options available to you at Selwyn Village. However to access rest home, hospital or dementia care you must be assessed by a Government-appointed Needs Assessor (NASC or DSL) before you can be admitted to rest homes, hospitals or dementia care. If this is something you think you may need, ask your GP for a NASC or DSL referral.

If you are looking for respite care, to receive funded care, you must be assessed by a Government-appointed Needs Assessor (NASC or DSL) with the appropriate funding available confirmed. Alternatively, if you are prepared to pay privately we will be happy to assist you (subject to availability).

Residents may be totally or partially funded by the New Zealand Government (this is subject to means testing).
