Brian Wells Lodge dementia care

Brian Wells Lodge is a 16-bed secure unit for specialised dementia care. Residents are offered as fulfilling and enjoyable time as possible in a homely, caring environment. The environment is safe and secure.

There are comfortable lounges to enjoy and a gazebo outside, from which to enjoy the gardens. The Brian Wells’ resident cat may even make an appearance!

Services and facilities
  • every resident is provided with their own room, we encourage residents to make their room feel as homely as possible and bring their own furniture and belongings
  • we can supply basic furniture should this be needed
  • each room is heated and includes a wardrobe
  • a private phone may be installed in any room (rentals are charged to residents through Telecom)
  • Brian Wells has a couple of cosy lounges and a gazebo from which to enjoy the gardens
  • Brian Wells has smoke detectors and sprinklers
  • appointments with the hairdresser, podiatrist, physiotherapist, dentist, optician or doctor can be arranged
  • shopping can be organised at the on-site mini-market
  • all meals are prepared and cooked on site. A qualified dietician oversees the menu and special diets are catered for
  • if guests visit for lunch or dinner, they can often be catered for
  • Brian Wells is staffed 24/7 including nurses assisted by caregivers and other professional staff as appropriate. All staff have on-going training as to the particular needs of the current residents in their care, and on safety issues
  • doctors routinely visit the hospital and there is medical coverage 24/7
  • the village chaplain visits regularly and is available for counselling and support; worship services are held regularly in Brian Wells
  • visiting family members and friends are always made very welcome any time, any day

Our activities include games, crafts, art therapy, attending Baby Buddies in conjunction with Plunket, gardening, musical activities and ‘sing-a-longs’, guided walks within the village grounds, gentle exercise and mini bus outings.
