Heavy rains and flooding swamping Auckland

2pm - Tuesday, 9 May 2023

For family and friends

Auckland's Mayor has declared a state of local emergency as heavy rains and flooding swamp Auckland yet again this year. MetService warns the most intense rainfall is yet to come. Streams and rivers have burst their banks in parts of the region and schools and daycares across Auckland are evacuating.

We are monitoring the situation at Sewlyn Village. At this stage, we are dealing with a few minor issues, but all is well under control for the moment.

If the weather deteriorates further, we ask that families check here for updates if you are concerned about your loved one’s welfare, rather than phoning the care homes. Our priority will be attending to residents, and staff may not be available to speak to you at the time you call.

We have everything in place to keep your loved ones warm, safe and comfortable should the weather worsen. We are being super cautious and have not alarmed your loved ones of what may or may not occur.

We’ll keep you updated as events unfold. Until then, please stay safe.
