Respectful Ageing for All, within Thriving Communities | Oranga Mātua, Oranga Tāngata

An Aotearoa New Zealand where everyone can age with dignity and respect

As more New Zealanders are living longer lives, with many facing increased hardship, The Selwyn Foundation is helping to create a future where every older person can live with dignity, purpose and belonging. For over 70 years, we’ve worked to enhance the material and spiritual wellbeing of vulnerable kaumātua/seniors, upholding mana and enriching lives, with our mahi/work underpinned by our faith in the Anglican tradition. Guided by The Selwyn Way and underpinned by our commitments to the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we lead through innovation, partnership and advocacy to create real change and a more respectful, age-inclusive society. Discover how our mission is making a difference.

Over 70 years of providing services and support for older New Zealanders

Selwyn has been a pioneer and a trusted name in enabling older people to age well for more than 70 years. Our historic Selwyn Village first opened in 1954 as a social housing community for seniors. Since then, the Foundation has led the way in championing initiatives that enable respectful ageing. With the number of people in Aotearoa New Zealand aged 65+ set to increase dramatically – reaching one million by 2028, almost 20% of the total population – our purpose today is more important than ever.
