Our History
Ka Mua, Ka Muri – Looking to the past to guide our future
The official opening of Selwyn Village (Point Chevalier, Auckland) in 1954 was the starting point of our remarkable journey in providing service and support to older New Zealanders, especially those who are vulnerable and in need. Known by many, the village and its site hold special significance for both the Anglican Church in Auckland and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as mana whenua. With our hallmark vision, innovation and the courage to think differently – first demonstrated by our founders in the 1950s – and our values inspired by our Christian faith in the Anglican tradition and our commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we draw on the strength and wisdom of our past as we chart our way forward.

The Selwyn Way
The Selwyn Way is our approach to the care and wellbeing of all who connect with us, with the individual at the centre of everything we do. We believe that a person’s wellbeing is impacted by their environment, their physical and spiritual health and the opportunities they have to engage in life. We embody these principles in how we interact with others, so you can experience consideration, care and respect, underpinned by our faith values and our commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Governance & Leadership
The Selwyn Foundation’s Constitution provides the guiding framework for the organisation, setting out the Charitable Purpose, expressed in the Objects and further defined by a set of Principles. These firmly centre the Foundation’s work on whole-person support for older people, within Church, community and residential settings, grounded in the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition and its commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
At a time when the world is facing growing challenges of prejudice and division, we stand for respect, inclusiveness and fairness for older people and hope for a better, more just society that will benefit our seniors of today and the older generations to come.
