Selwyn Strength & Balance Programme

As we age, falls are a risk we all face. Our Forever Young programme is lots of fun and designed to improve your strength, balance, flexibility and agility.

Forever Young
  • This programme is for those who can commit to a one hour exercise class once a week for 10 weeks. The programme caters for all levels of fitness and disability.
  • In week one you will have a simple assessment and learn about what to bring to class and be given your own handbook about the programme.
  • In week ten we repeat the assessment to determine your percentage improvement.

Most of all - this will be fun! Not like any exercise class you’ve done before. In fact, we almost never use the ‘E’ word. Come and join us.

If you have a medical condition, we may ask you to get a clearance from your GP to participate in the programme. This is an ACC accredited falls prevention programme.

Are you at risk of a fall? 
  1. Have you slipped, tripped or fallen in the last year?
  2. Do you need to use your hands to get out of a chair?
  3. Are you worried about falling?
  4. Have you avoided some activities because you are afraid you might lose your balance?
  5. Do you sometimes feel unsteady when walking?
  6. Have you been told to use a walking stick to help you get around?
  7. Do you steady yourself by holding on to furniture?
  8. Have you lost feeling in your feet?
  9. Does your medicine make you sleepy, light-headed, dizzy or drowsy (sleeping or blood pressure pills for example)?
  10. Do you often feel sad or depressed?
  11. Have you had your eyes tests in the last two years?
  12. Do you feel dizzy when you get out of bed, stand up or bend over?
  13. Do you have trouble hearing (this can affect your balance)?
  14. Do you find yourself having to rush to the bathroom?

If you answered yes to any one of these questions, you are at risk of a fall. Don’t just fear the future and risk a fall, take positive action now and join our Forever Young programme.
