The Selwyn Foundation’s Anchorage day service opened at St Mary’s Cooperating Parish Church in Glen Innes in 2015.

It caters for people with dementia living in Auckland’s Eastern suburbs. Providing locally-based day services is a key part of the Foundation’s wider community care strategy, focusing on ageing well and remaining independent in your own home.

Clients participation and independence is promoted through social, mental and physical activities. The variety of these activities includes reminiscing sessions, bus outings and gardening activities to join in with. The programme incorporates gentle exercise, group activities and crafts which are acceptable for older adults living with dementia.  The inclusiveness and wide range of these services are appreciated by the clients and their family members.

The Anchorage is a multicultural day care centre. Clients who attend the service come from a range of ethnic, religious and social backgrounds.
